With 28 inches of new snow on top of a 20-30 inch base it was a banner day for the Arizona Snowbowl just outside of Flagstaff. We enjoyed blue most of the time but the temperature did not rise above 9 degrees. You know how much I love those kinds of conditions, however, despite my best efforts to properly outfit them I was a little worried that my wife and youngest daughter would be cold. Reb is a trooper and I knew she would drive on no matter what but this was kind of a hey snow skiing is fun promo trip for TK so I wanted them both to have a positive experience.
And they did. Yea, it was cold but they were plenty warm and we all had a great time. Looking forward to doing more skiing and with this El Nino thing going it looks like it will be a good year.
Big hits with the leg shavers were
-The North Face Nuptse 2 Jackets (goose down – their heavy insulation piece)
-Lululemon winter weight leggings
-Gordini goose down mittens
-Sahalie Butter Fleece zip t-neck tops (expedition weight base top)
I was very happy with my entire set up but especially
-The North Face Mountain Jacket (circa 1990 – yep, I went old school)
-Eddie Bauer First Ascent Guide Lite Gloves
-Patagonia Thermal Weight Boot-Length base bottoms
-Arcteryx Alpha Bibs
-Cooper Tire AT3s (fantastic, not so much as a slip while others were all over the road)
UPDATE – Everybodys wearing helmets now. Just seems to make them ski too fast if you ask me which means when they hit something or someone, and they will, the resulting injury will be the same as if they weren’t wearing one. Add earphones, their favorite playlist, and they don’t have a clue what’s going on around them.
