US Ski Team Athlete Lindsey Vonn was injured on Tuesday while competing in the Alpine World Championship held in Schladming, Austria. I am posting about this because I found the picture interesting. I have spent a lot of time hanging below a helicopter taking care of an injured person. What intrigues me about this is that the patient is being attended by two Search And Rescue Technicians. Please don’t misunderstand, I am not at all second guessing the on scene crew, it just struck me because our SOGs dictated that live loads be attended by only one SAR Tech. Putting three lives at risk on the bottom of the line would have been extraordinary for us, I am not sure we have ever done it.
Olympic ski racer Lindsey Vonn evacuated off the mountain by helicopter short haul. Note that this live load is attended by two SAR Techs.
I wish Ms. Vonn all the best and hope to see her up on skis again soon.
