Need a high performance outdoor clothing system that consists of all camouflage components? Sitka Gear has a very good one in the Optifade Open Country camo pattern.
Clothing systems have been a popular topic around here lately, although, I have always appreciated the way certain pieces go and work together. I posted a Youtube video last week showing my multipurpose clothing system but since about half of my readers are trigger pullers of some kind or another so I thought I would give you some camouflage alternatives.
I poke a little fun at the current crop of cable hunting shows but there are a couple that I don’t mind watching occasionally. I am starting to see more hunters on these shows wear complete sets of high end, top notch technical clothing. The best come from either Sitka Gear or Kuiu which have distinctive camo patterns that are easily identified by those in the know. It is interesting to note that the heads of these two companies were once partners working together towards the same goal so it should not surprise us that their efforts individually have resulted in best in class gear for hunters.
Since Sitka Gear was the first in this small niche I will show theirs first. Here are my chosen Sitka Gear base, insulation, and shell layer pieces.
Base – The Core Zip T is a thin body hugging base layer top that performs just like it should. It provides some warmth when all zipped up and used in combination with the insulation and shell layers but it is designed primarily to move perspiration away from the skin to be vented away. The Core Zip T has a deep chest zipper, is comfortable to wear for long periods of time, and does an effective job of wicking.
Insulation – The Kelvin Lite Jacket is a very light, super compactable “liner” that works nicely with the Sitka system for when I am trying to move fast while keeping the weight to a minimum, just 13 ounces. If I expect colder temps or think I will be doing more sitting around then I will switch to the thicker Kelvin Jacket. The standard Kelvin offers triple the fill but just double the total weight.
Shell Layer – The Stormfront Jacket and matching Gore-Tex pants were designed for Alaska hunting guides and the extreme environment they work in. The Stormfront offers maximum abrasion resistance and weather protection in a technically correct, lightweight hardshell. It is arguably the best hunting specific outerwear on the market.
If you are looking for a high performance outdoor clothing system but need it to be in camouflage, take a long hard look at these Sitka Gear products.
