I was sweating my ass off on the treadmill and watching Jim Shockeys “Uncharted” show on the tube when I saw a commercial for this new item from Havalon. Having been a Havalon knife (its more a surgical grade scalpel than a traditional hunting knife) user since they first hit the market some years ago I was intrigued so I texted my bro at The Outdoorsmans and asked him if he could get me one. Being the cutting edge (pun intended) hot shit hunting gear shop that they are he had already ordered a few dozen for the store. He promised to set one aside for me when they came in although there was no mention at that time what it would end up costing me.
Always true to his word, he called me yesterday to tell me that my knife was in and that I could come get it but there was a catch. I had to show up wearing a black taco bender and sleeveless shirt before he would hand it over. Since the new Havalon Titan Knife is part of the new Jim Shockey Signature Series of products it was not an all together ridiculous demand. However, being the world class wheeler dealer that I am I countered with a rare offer to buy lunch instead. Deal!
Long time readers know that I am always trying to pare down and lighten my gear list while maintaining or even increasing capability, utility and safety. To that end, the one on the left (Havalon Titan) allows me two get rid of the two (Buck Ranger and Havalon Piranta) on the right. That’s one less thing in my game dressing module and a net weight savings which makes me happy. Thanks Jim.
The Titan comes from Havalon complete with a nylon carrying case and two kinds of extra skinning blades. As far as the knife goes it has all the features you would expect from a user driven design that is well made of modern materials but the best are the separate locking mechanisms that keep the extremely sharp blades from closing on your fingers.
Havalon makes a solid product. Cody has sold a boat load of them and we use them ourselves in the field. The point (get it) is I don’t really have to do much testing to recommend this one to you so call Pudge Butt at the shop and have him send you a couple.
