Over the course of seven years I posted more than 500 articles on the old HardcoreOutdoor.com website. I had a lot of fun with it, did what most readers thought was solid work and built a pretty good following in the process but when Go Daddy pulled the plug on their Quick BlogCast product in June we were dead in the water. I decided to take a break from the forums, the trade shows, the cozy industry relationships, etc. I retreated to my favorite beach, coached some football and took a new job but after that much needed time away I am back, fired up, and ready to go with a new site.
However, as regular readers can see, this new WordPress platform is a long way from what we had. I know it is rough but we are working on it. Please be patient. The good news is that most of the old content has successfully migrated. The bad news is that we are missing the last nine months of posts and all of the pictures. So every time you see a little square with an X in it, that is where a picture should be. To add insult to injury the external hard drive I used to back up the first five years of pictures crashed. Anyway, we have a lot of work to do but I built it once, I can certainly do it again. Besides, I like a challenge.
While it has been modified slightly over the years, the footer of every one of my posts, in part, reads as follows:
“…promoting best-in-class outdoor gear for high end recreational users, backcountry professionals, and elite government agencies”
And that, in a nutshell, is what I do here most of the time. I have received tens of thousands of reader comments over the years and the most common sentiment, by far, is that they appreciated my unique approach to the process of reviewing what I thought was the best gear on the market. No distractions, no deals, no outside interference, no pulled punches. Just good, honest information on great gear that helps me go farther, faster and safer regardless of terrain or weather. If I like it and use it in the field then I will recommend it to you. That won’t change, and neither will the poor grammar/punctuation by the way, but because it is my site I reserve the right to include commentary on anything else that might interest or irritate me so take a deep seat and hang on because it can get pretty western around here. Everything is on the table.
