This Winchester 94AE is my favorite truck gun. It is very handy and effective for me on targets out to about 100 yards with iron sights. I have one in .357 mag, .44 mag, and 30-30.
When I was growing up pretty much every pick up in town had a set of gun racks in the back window with a rifle in it. They were often lever action 30-30s because they were easy to grab quickly, had a decent capacity, were relatively accurate, could be counted on to work and were inexpensive. They were also stout enough to drive fence posts into the ground.
For many of the same reasons, my favorite truck gun is the shortest factory version of the old lever action Winchester, the model 94AE, which has a 16 inch barrel. I have seen this rifle referred to as a Saddle Ring Carbine, Trapper, and Ranger but the truth is I am not sure what it is really called. I just know it nestles nicely into that notch between the seats and is always there when I need to grab it.
Every man needs a good truck gun when he is in the field, this is mine.
