Tenacious tape comes in a plastic tube a little larger than a chapstick and it weighs practically nothing. It is cheap but effective insurance against soft goods damage in the field. Don’t get caught short. Get some.
Sooner or later you are going to damage a piece of your soft goods. If you use your gear like I do then it will probably be sooner. Light weight shells, tents, sleeping bags, pads, gaitors, etc, etc, are all prone to rips and tears whether it comes from a crampon tip, a rock edge or a tent pole. Field repairs need to be made quick, easy and effective so you can continue on with the mission.
Tenacious Tape from McNett works best for me. It is made in a number of colors including clear, comes in a handy little plastic tube and lives up to its name. It is indeed tenacious. It is still holding strong to everything I have ever put it on which is more than I can say for my duct, hundred mile an hour or gaffers tapes.
Just to be extra “A” shifty, if at all possible, try to put it on both sides of the damaged area.
This is good stuff and available at any REI type store.
