Alright boys and girls. You don’t hear me gush often so pay attention. Wow! The new Surefire Fury is awesome. Yea, that’s right. I said awesome. Wet your pants, scream out loud and get all Justin Bieber giddy awesome.
My new Surefire Fury came in today and I couldn’t wait to make the gear room nice and dark so I could compare it to the last latest and greatest piece I got from Surefire, the G2X PRO which, up to this point, was my favorite handheld torch. The verdict is that the Fury is even better but then again I expected that based on the specs. I just didn’t think it would be by such a wide margin.
My “old” G2X PRO is a dual output LED model that runs on two 123A Lithium batteries and produces 15 lumens for 45 hours or 320 lumens for 2 hours. The new P2X Fury comes in essentially the same form factor and runs on the same batteries but the output is 15 lumens for 46 hours and a face melting, eye burning, flinch inducing 500 lumens for 1.5 hours. 500 lumens! Holy freaking cow folks. That is impressive.
Beam comparison. Fury on the left, G2X on the right. I thought the light from the G2X was very good but this picture shows just how much stronger the Fury is. Note the difference in color and size.
Put the two lights up on the wall of even a naturally lit room and the difference is striking. The high beam of the Fury is obviously brighter but it is also whiter and about two times larger at 15 feet. And…it is a Surefire which means it is ultra dependable and backed up by a no hassle guarantee. That makes it pretty much the best flashlight I have ever used. So good that all the other manufacturers might as well stop sending me flashlights to test. You’ll just be wasting your time and mine.
Size comparison. Fury on the left, G2X on the right (with the reflective tape around the bezel). It amazes me that Surefire was able to get such a gain in performance without increasing the size. Exceptionally handy for everything from trail to tactical uses.
The G2X is outstanding. The Fury is great. Want or need the best lightweight, handheld flashlight in the world? Get yourself a Surefire Fury.
