Size matters. On the Left is the Arcteryx Alpha SV Glove. The one on the right is the shorter version called the Vertical SV Glove. Both are awesome for cold weather use, you just have to choose which one is best for you…or get a pair of each.
How do you make the best cold weather glove made even better? Easy. Make it shorter. I told you a few months ago about the Alpha SV Gloves from Arcteryx and how much I liked them. However, I have never been a big fan of gloves with tall gauntlets although I certainly understand their value in certain situations.
The only way I thought the Alphas SV could be made better was to make a shorter, more conventional version. I wanted something like a traditional winter ski or work glove that fit under not over my shell jacket sleeves. Done. Here they are.
Rule number one of the anal retentive obsessive compulsive credo is when presented with a choice between one or the other, take both. I did and now I am happy.
Front and back views of the Arcteryx Vertical SV Gloves. Nice wrap around, highly adjustable velcro back closures, articulated thumb and fingers, leather in all the right places and carabiner loops. Beautiful.
The shorter Vertical model is my favorite but both are great. Are they perfect? Pretty damn close. What’s missing? A patch of nose wipe fabric on the backs might be nice but that is all I can come up with.
