i was in the feathered friends store in seattle (my favorite ski, mountaineering store) a few days ago and picked up a pair of arcteryx gamma sk pants that were on sale. man, arcteryx continues to impress me. they are producing some of the absolute best stuff on the market, more than anyone else in fact.
arcteryx has over the past several years been putting more resources into their leaf (law enforcement armed forces) products and they are even making some of their pieces in multicam camouflage but it is still a limited side line with A separate website. if the dead bird ever decides to fully serve those of us that need or prefer stealthy colors, they will quite simply and in short order put a number of hunting clothing companies out of business. their products are just that good, head and shoulders above the rest without giving in to the temptation of being trendy or over designed. look at the theta ar jacket, vertical sv gloves, alpha sv gloves, alpha sv bibs, bora 80 backpack and many others and you are looking at the very best of their kind.
these gamma sk pants are another example of arcteryx excellence. built for ski touring but they work just as well for snow shoeing, mountaineering, cross country skiing, downhill skiing or winter backpacking. they are made out of a heavy duty or “burly” double weave stretch nylon that is super comfortable and roomy enough to climb in. they have good thigh cargo pockets, a built in but flat belt and removable suspenders. and…ta da…no back pockets, you don’t carry a wallet in the backcountry so why have back pockets?
yea the arcteryx gamma sk pants are ultra cool but they are also incredibly functional and high performing on the mountain. these are great pants that are gonna be in my big pelican “go box” for a long time.
check ’em out.
UPDATE – THESE PANTS CONTINUE TO PERFORM. COMFORTABLE, EFFECTIVE, DURABLE AND THEY STILL LOOK SHARP. EVERYTHING I EXPECT FROM ARCTERYX.
