The Carhartt Work-Dry T-Shirt is the next step up in the evolution of the basic cotton T-Shirt. Its traditional cotton feel with modern features like moisture transport and odor control results in a better T-shirt for the outdoorsman.
I have written previously on this site about my transition from traditional cotton T-shirts to polyester ones for high perspiration activities. The truth is that I still wear cotton T-shirts but only for knocking around or running errands because I like the feel. However, if I am doing something where I am going to be sweating hard I wear one of the new polyester offerings, usually something from Under Armour.
Carhartt sent me a couple of their Work-Dry tees to try out and I have to tell you that I really like them. First of all, they are extremely comfortable. Softer then a regular cotton tee even after a dozen washings. Second, they have a nice heft to them. Not so lingerie light like the polyester shirts and they aren’t clingy tight.
I recently went on a Coues deer hunt here in central Arizona where the temperatures swung from the high 30s at night to the mid 80s in the afternoon. Steep terrain and thick cover made for a good sweat when moving from one glassing spot to another. My base layer top on this trip was the Carhartt Work-Dry T-Shirt. It did a good job of moving the sweat away from my skin, dried quickly and even after several days it didn’t stink like I thought it would. And again, it was very comfortable.
These shirts are a 6 ounce blend of 60% cotton, 40% polyester. They come in long or short sleeve and have a breast pocket on the left side that comes in handy for holding your Windicator powder. These shirts are cut so that you can tuck them in and they stay tucked in until you decide to untuck them which is the way it should be.
Anyway, if you are a devout cotton tee guy you have to give these Work-Dry shirts a try. Whether it is hunting quail in the foothills, bushwhacking in the mountains under a strong sun, or just doing chores around the house these are by far the most comfortable shirts I own. I am betting that once you try them, you will will think so too.
I do have one request of Carhartt though, please add a sage or olive green to the mix of colors.
