I get messages all the time asking for advice or opinions on gear purchases that people are contemplating.
This one came from my oldest daughter. She is not a hardcore user and this is not a technical piece but she wants something that looks nice, good quality, and works the way it is supposed to. In short she, like most consumers, wants a good value. I get it but it cracks me up what some of these companys will say about their products.
Case in point. Read the description of this coat made by Burton.
Living Lining Auto-Adjusts warmth and cooling to provide Climate Control for the entire season. Really? That sounds amazing and something everyone would want unless you are a gear expert. I don’t know how this Climate Control feature works and they don’t explain it but I am pretty sure it doesn’t really.
There are no magic bullets folks. If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is. There will be a day when our technical clothing will be able to auto adjust warmth and cooling to match activity and conditions but we are not there yet. I will let you know when that day arrives in the not to distant future. In the meantime, do your homework and question of fantastic claims. Caveat emptor!
