ALONE is back for a second season on The History Channel. Here are the bios for this years 10 participants.
My comments on episode 1
- Desmond tapped out before the end of the first day, he didn’t make through one night, so they are already down to 9. He seemed surprised and very uncomfortable in a wilderness setting. He must not have watched last season.
- Mary Kate woke up after night 1 and discovered water on the floor of her shelter. Worse, her down sleeping bag was wet. That’s a bad thing and she knew it. Vancouver Island is in the middle of a rain forest. Wet, wet, and more wet so why in the world would you choose a down sleeping bag? My rule (I have said it many times here) – goose down is lighter, stuffs better, and is warmer per ounce but you should only choose it if you are confident that you can keep it dry. I would have gone with a Wiggy’s Ultima Thule bag. It is rated to minus 20 degrees, uses proven Lamilite synthetic insulation, built with heavy duty materials and construction, and it will dry quickly. It is a little on the heavy side but these people are in fixed or mostly fixed locations so weight is not an issue.
