Gear For The Beach...And Other Places

Staged, nice and early, for a full day at the beach with the family and friends.

Gear for a proper beach day camp includes some recommendations from a few years ago that are still working very well for us here as well as other places.

Polar Bear are still the best soft coolers on the market.  The red 24 pack (middle left) was my first and while the color has faded it works as good as ever.  The silver one (middle right) is the same size but reflects the sun better so it hasn't faded at all.  I also have a couple of silver 48 packs when more space is needed.  These Polar Bears Coolers have been used by every member of my family for just about every kind of outing you can think of on a weekly basis.  They have held up very well, still don't leak and keep ice almost as well as my best hard chests.

They are hard to see in this picture but there are a half dozen Camelbak Better Bottles strewn about containing both adult beverages and drinks for the kids.  These too are on their third year of regular use and they are still going strong.  Coffee, water, cocktails or whatever the Better Bottle is tantamount to an adult sippy cup.  Liquid only comes out of them when you want it to, they are damn near unbreakable and they keep the dust, dirt, sand and mud from spoiling your precious drinky poo.  Just one thing to remember, make sure you take a little extra time to clean (dishwasher safe) the nooks and crannies so you don't grow any gunk.

By the way, this years beach drink is a John Daly which is an Arnold Palmer with a shot or two of Ketel One Vodka.  Easy to drink all day long but not so vaginal that real men are embarrassed to drink them in front of other real men in public.

To hold the extra booze we use Nalgene Flasks which again hold up to a lot of abuse and don't leak.

Also, pictured here is the Captain Schamadan anti-tsunami slash tidal surge protection trench, the obligatory full size spade and the almost always with me now Camelbak Linchpin backpack.

Yea, this is beach stuff but like I said, it works everywhere including elk camp, command post or FOB.

Thanks.
