Raw Notes From The Beach
alright, time to get back to regular posts. spent some quality time in socal with the fam which is always good. as much as i want to pull my hair out sometimes i really do appreciate what we have together. we are fortunate to enjoy each others company as much as we do even though the whole circus resembles a reality show i would not allow any of them to watch. while i am coach, historian, banker and hammer momma bear keeps it all together and on an even keel. we cover all the bases with a great partnership and after all these years she is still the one i would pick to be in a fox hole with.
don't mean to get all preachy on you all but some recent events within our scottsdale community have reminded us, again, of what is really important and that life is fragile. there are no guarantees folks so make everyday count as if it were you last because it just might be. death is like helicopter crashes. they are not a question of if but when so do what needs to be done, say what has to be said and make sure your affairs are in order. end of sermon.
i try to keep my personal politics out of this but sometimes i can't help it and this is one of those times. i am absofreakinglutely amazed at what is happening with the debt ceiling slash budget "negotiations" mess that is all over the news. it is pretty simple boys and girls, we (by we i mean the drunken sailors we put in washington) are spending more than we bring in and we can't borrow/print any more money without increasing our own credit limit beyond the current $14 trillion. apparently $14 tril just isn't enough. what's worse is we have too many at the top and bottom of the spectrum that aren't paying any taxes leaving those of us in the middle footing the bill. not cool but we have let it happen like the proverbial frog in the pot of water.
frankly, i can't even believe there is an argument but the battle lines have been drawn and we are gonna see who wins. the makers or the takers? have you made your opinion known to your elected officials? if not, do you know what part of your anatomy is exposed when you bend over and stick your head in the sand? that's right and that is exactly where you are gonna get it if this thing goes the wrong direction. get in the fight. engage mav!
maybe "term limits" by vince flynn is not the best book for me to be reading right now.

i have written in the past about top notch gear shops like feathered friends in seattle, the summit hut in tucson and the hiking shack in phoenix. here is another one. add adventure 16 in san diego to that list. the big box stores are convenient and offer good prices i know but i really appreciate the knowledge, experience and great gear found at these specialty stores. check them out. they deserve your patronage.

i don't bring my swaros to the beach because the idea of getting sand all over them sends a chill down my spine but i love watching what is going on from my perch. seals, lifeguards, border patrol, dolphins, stupid people, submarines, surfers, naval aviation and ships, bikinis and everything else. what a show and this set up works just as well here as it does on the mountain looking for whitey. manfrotto 190xv tripod, outdoorsmans pan head, outdoorsmans binocular adaptor system and a set of nikon monarch 12x56s.
and last but not least wilderness athlete has a new product out called "greens" and i would love to tell you how wonderful it is but my slacker brother has not sent me any to use yet so i can't. sorry but if it is as good as the rest of their stuff they have another winner.
later taters.
