Salomon Explorer GTX Trail Boots Pass The Schamadan Field Test

Salomon Explorer GTX boots after 50 trips through the Phoenix Mountain Preserve.
I received these boots about a year and a half ago and had high hopes for them, unfortunately they were too narrow for my 11.5 D+ feet. However, they fit my buddy Mike Schamadan perfectly so I gave them to him to use on his regular PT sessions in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. 50+ trips later he let me take them back just long enough to snap a few pictures for this post.

They definitely look like they have been used but there is plenty of life left in these trail boots. I certainly didn't expect them to hold up this well.
Scham is hard on his gear which is why I like to give him things. He isn't abusive, he just doesn't baby his stuff. He uses it like any other hard charging B Shift Ladder Captain I guess so I value his input and feedback a great deal.
He prefers high tops and wanted something that was supportive but lightweight enough to run in. His big pet peeve though is durability. It drives him nuts when gear falls apart before it should. These Salomons have passed the Scham test. He likes them.

Visable wear and tear is uniformed. Nothing has worn through or failed.
The Explorer GTXs are no longer available from Salomon so you might wonder why I bother to mention them here at all. Well, I am not doing a full review but wanted to give them some positive exposure. They have earned it and Salomon is still producing footwear that interests me and warrants consideration by serious users. I just wish they offered a wide version to accommodate me and many of my readers. By the way, you can still purchase the Explorers from a few sources on the internet but don't dilly dally around because when they are gone you are SOL.
So, do I recommend these? No, I didn't evaluate them and they don't fit me but Scham does and that counts for a lot in my book.
Editors note: my mistake guys, the Explorer is still being produced and is, in fact, displayed on the Salomon website.
Thanks.
