GREAT GEAR RECOMMENDATION - REVISED - Lowa Ranger GTX - Now Even Better

The new Lowa Ranger GTX.

Two years ago, after evaluating more than 100 pairs of boots, I concluded that the Lowa Ranger GTX was the best all around outdoor boot on the market.  They were so good, in fact, that I was able to overlook their navy blue color.  So, imagine how pleased I was to get a new set of Rangers in regular brown leather or Antique Brown as the company calls it.  Ecstatic, but the real surprise is that a great boot is even better now with more support around the ankle and under foot.

Comfortable right out of the box.  I did 10 miles of trail and scrambling the first time I wore these.  The lacing system, fully gusseted tongue, sticky Vibram outsole, and full low rand are all exceptional features carried over from the previous model.  And they are still available in regular and wide versions.

Check out my original post on these in the "Feet" catagory for the complete review but here is the take away message in three sentences.  Supportive, protective and stable yet they feel light and nimble compared to competing models in the trekking and backpacking classes.  The Ranger GTX is a sturdy, well made boot that inspires confidence over a wide range of terrain and outdoor activities.  I am pleased to give them my highest recommendation...again.
