Gatorade G Series Bar, Drink and Powder

Gatorade G Series Pro 02 Perform Thirst Quencher Endurance Powder, Pro 01 Prime Pre-Game Fuel Nutrition Bar, and Prime 01 Pre-Game Fuel Carbs + B Vitamins (B3, B5, B6) Drink.  Don't even try to remember the names, just ask the clerk for the new Gatorade stuff and they will hopefully point you in the right direction.  After that, you are AMF YOYO as we liked to say on the Team.

I have been a Gatorade fan since I was knee high to a yard line marker and now with three athletic chitlins of my own constantly practicing or playing something in this hot dry environment, we buy a lot of their product.  Why?  Mostly because it is what they will drink (soda is not allowed in our house except for Nanny and Big Poppa) and it is convenient for my wife to pick up with the other groceries.  Basically, it is easy and tastes good.  Although, it should be noted that the current drink tastes a lot different than the stuff I grew up with so I tell my kids, players, clients and anyone else that will listen that it needs to be diluted with good old water by at least half or maybe more.  It is just too sweet for my old school sensibilities.

Just to give you an idea how far we have come, I remember filling my Husky Jeans pockets full of Cramer Salt Tablets and pushing them to my dads players during two-a-days.  Those towel snapping, dirty joke telling, tough as nails red neck farm boys were the big brothers I never had so I ate them too.  A lot of them.  They were awful.  Three sickest times I have ever been were those salt tabs, the Red Man Chewing Tobacco incident when I was 11 and Schams 40th birthday party at El Charro Lodge.  Dam, it is a wonder I have any guts left.

Anyway, I was anxious to try these new Gatorade products.  Actually, it was Coop D that got me to look at the G Series line and he drove me crazy until the box showed up from Gatorade.  You can decide for yourself but the bottom line is, it is pretty good stuff and seems to do the job.  Is it better than the Wilderness Athlete or Hammer Nutrition products I regularly use?  Cooper says, yes, absolutely but I think that is the advertising susceptable sweet toothed kid in him talking and he is right, they have some big name athletes as pitch men and the stuff tastes great but I am probably not going to switch.  I am happy with what I am using now and I have a sneaking suspicion that it is better for me.

Coach Paulsen at Wilderness Athlete could tell you all the pros and cons of the ingredients of these kinds of products but in the end, I suspect that he would agree with me that it comes down to personal preference and what it is that you will drink most when you really need it to keep your human machine running at optimal performance levels.

If you are knowledgable about such things and are a label reader, you can check out the particulars of the G Series drink, powder and bar here and let me know what you think.
