More Sleeping Bags, Kind of - Nunatak Raku & Akula
Since sleeping bags are by far the most popular subject on this site, "optics" is a distant second, I thought I would add a couple of other items that I have and like very much.
My "Sleeping BagZZZZZZZZ" post told you how much I value the down products from Western Mountaineering and the synthetic stuff from Wiggy's but there is another company that makes a couple of specialized pieces that I use and really like. They deserve a little recognition from this site too.
Nunatak makes two very high quality "bags" for lack of a more accurate term. One is called the Raku Bag/Parka which is basically a down sleeping bag with arms, a jacket type hood and an effective draw string mechanism at the bottom to allow the user to open it up and expose their feet. The purpose is to give the user the ability to stay in the bag but get up and walk around and use their arms. If you open up the feet and hike the bottom of the bag up to your waist and then cinch it back up you end up with something like a puffy kilt. You stay warmer because you don't technically get out of your bag and heat loss is minimized by virtue of the cinched bottom. It isn't for everybody but there are situations for which this thing is perfect.

Like Western Mountaineering Nunatak also makes an Elephant’s Foot called the Akula Half Bag. It is just that, a half bag, the bottom half to be exact. As I have said on this site before, I really like the half bag concept. It works very well for what I do.
Hey, by the way, thanks for all the hits. It is nice to see that this information is appreciated. As this grows we will move to a full web site and add pics and videos and more. Who knows how big it will get.
Anyway, get out there and go far. It will keep you from getting soft and sharpen your primitive skills.
Thanks.
