Haul'n Gas-Best Jerry Cans & Water Cans
I store enough diesel fuel and gasoline at home for at least one full tank in each of our vehicles and 10 gallons of drinking water per person. That is a fair number of 5 gallon containers and being the anal retentive obsessive compulsive type I like the containers to be all the same. I also wanted them to be very durable and free of leaks. I had been looking for a suitable container to meet my needs for some time when I happen to see a video clip of some soldiers in Iraq unloading a bunch of what looked like jerry cans from a deuce and a half. The kicker was they did not sound like metal cans and the way the guys were tossing them off the truck, they had to be tough as hell. So I did a little research and found out what the military was using.
Scepter is a Canadian company that produces, among other things, super heavy duty plastic fuel and water cans. They come in 2.5 and 5 gallon (10 and 20 liter) sizes and a bunch of different colors. I bought two just to see if they were really as good as I had been lead to believe. They were even better than I had expected so I bought all the red (Gasoline), tan (water) and yellow (diesel) cans that I needed. They look great, stack nicely, and do not leak. At all.
As you know, most of my backcountry two tracker cruising is now done in my Polaris Ranger XP which has an open bed. Since everyone can see my gear I always get questions about my Polar Bear soft side coolers and my fuel and water cans. Since I am the Pied Piper and Johnny Appleseed of great gear I am always happy to spread the good the word about what I consider best-in-class equipment.
I am not kidding you, these are the best fuel and water containers available. You can order them and their equally impressive 3/4 inch and 1 inch flexible spouts from Brigade Quartermaster.
Thanks.
